CHICO, CA, October 16 -- With just over two weeks until the November 3rd election, Congressional candidate Audrey Denney (D-Chico) has stayed true to form, outraising incumbent Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) nearly four to one in the third fundraising quarter of 2020 and surpassing $2 million in total funds raised in the 2020 cycle. It is unheard of to see a challenger with the ability to double the fundraising efforts of an incumbent, but in CA-01, LaMalfa’s failures and Denney’s local momentum and smart campaigning is proving that anything is possible.
Denney’s Campaign Manager, Brian Solecki, shared, “While Rep. LaMalfa continues to rely on corporate PAC and out-of-district political committee contributions, we are the campaign that has garnered in-district support and enthusiasm, and we continue to demonstrate that Audrey is the candidate the North State is excited about. Over 70% of Audrey’s funds come from right here in California’s 1st District, compared to 27% for Rep. LaMalfa. The Congressman’s demonstrably lackluster leadership and dependence on misinformation campaigning are wearing thin, and the people of California’s 1st District are fed up.”
In the 2020 cycle, Denney has amassed a total of 41,994 contributions from individuals, including over 16,000 individual contributions in quarter three alone. 95% of Denney’s campaign funds have come from real people, while only 53% of Rep. LaMalfa’s are from individuals.
Denney commented, “The people of our district have been suffering at the hands of a Congressman who is either unable or unwilling to do his job. In the last 18 years of his political career, Rep. LaMalfa has proven with his votes as well as his inactions that the people he was elected to represent are the lowest item on his priorities list. Our fundraising numbers show that real people know they deserve better, and every dollar they share with this movement will be used to replace a harmful, hyperpartisan politician with a true public servant who is funded by and accountable only to real people.
