Diana Dwyre doesn't like to put money on election predictions.
She may be a Chico State professor with a doctorate in political science, but she also acknowledges the uncertainty inherent to most elections. Even in California's North State, a pocket of ardent conservatism, a lot can change between now and November, Dwyre said.
So what does that mean for U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale, who is seeking his fifth term representing California's 1st Congressional District?
"If certain variables fall into place — if it ends up being a bad year for Republicans generally — then he may have something to worry about because Audrey Denney has pretty much been a serious challenger," Dwyre continued, "more serious than we’ve seen in this congressional district for a lot of years."
