Chico, CA — Congressional candidate Audrey Denney released a video this week calling for a public debate ahead of ballots being mailed to voters in California’s 1st Congressional District, emphasizing the importance of direct accountability and open dialogue.
The debate was initially proposed to take place before ballots are sent out. Denney confirmed her participation, as did James Gallagher, for Friday, April 24, after receiving a request from community leaders to lock in the date.
Senator Mike McGuire has since indicated he is not available for that date, and has offered no alternative dates.
“Ballots are about to go out. Voters deserve the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates before they make their decision,” Denney said in the video.
Denney reiterated her willingness to participate in a debate on any date that allows all candidates to attend, while also making clear that she will not delay engaging with voters.
“I’m looking forward to sharing with voters that as the only candidate who hasn’t taken corporate or special interest money, I’m best positioned to stand up to Trump and protect our democracy. That’s my message, no matter which other candidates show up,” said Denney.
Denney’s campaign has consistently emphasized accessibility, transparency, and direct engagement with voters across the district as core to her candidacy.
