Audrey Denney Launches Campaign for Congress in CA-01, Centering Service Over Politics

Denney’s grassroots, people-powered campaign will deliver real, fair representation for Northern California.

CHICO, CA – Today, Chico educator and nonprofit leader with over a decade of experience ensuring families have access to food, Audrey Denney (D) officially launched her campaign for California’s 1st Congressional District. Audrey is running to take on Doug LaMalfa, MAGA Republicans and their big money interests in Washington by building a grassroots movement grounded in true public service, not politics.

In her launch video, Denney, who grew up on a family farm in Central California and worked as a bartender to pay her way through college, says it’s time for a new generation of leaders who put people over corporate interests and fight for Northern Californians – tackling a worsening affordability crisis and rising costs, protecting working families’ health care and food access, and pushing back against authoritarian attacks on our rights and freedoms.

Denney shared, “Real people are struggling. I’ve seen it firsthand speaking with my neighbors, in the food banks I work with, and in the classrooms where I teach. I’m running for Congress because Washington is failing us. The American Dream is out of reach because it’s simply not affordable. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, Doug LaMalfa, and Republicans in Washington are selling out our health care, food security, and hard-earned benefits to give massive tax breaks to billionaires. Working people deserve a government that works for them – and enough is enough.”

Denney launches her campaign as Californians prepare to vote on new district maps this November – changes that would make CA-01 one of the most competitive districts in California for a Democratic candidate.

As extreme partisanship led by Trump and Rep. LaMalfa sows fear and chaos across the country, Denney highlights her hope for the future of the North State and beyond, noting “I believe in people. I believe in the power, voice and resilience of our neighbors and communities – from Susanville to Santa Rosa, Loyalton to Lakeport. When the people of Northern California elect me to Congress, I will be part of a new wave of leadership ready to hold Trump and his enablers accountable, fight to protect and strengthen our democracy, and work harder than ever to build something better than business as usual.”
