Audrey Denney Statement on the Senate Deal to End the Government Shutdown

CHICO, CA – Today’s Senate move toward ending the shutdown leaves millions of Americans facing higher health insurance bills next year because it fails to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. Audrey Denney, candidate for Congress in CA-01, released the following statement:

“I stand with my neighbors in the North State who are bracing for their premiums to jump, and who are being forced to make impossible choices because Washington Republicans advanced a deal that ripped away families’ healthcare.

I’m running for Congress because everyday people are struggling to afford their lives. From food on the table to care for their kids and aging parents, costs keep climbing while politicians hand out breaks to billionaires and corporate interests. It’s immoral, it’s backwards, and it’s time to hold them accountable.

Healthcare for millions shouldn’t be a bargaining chip. This is life and death for too many, and that should be unacceptable no matter what letter is next to your name.

It’s time for change. We need a new generation of leaders who aren’t beholden to insiders or special interests and who will fight like hell to lower costs, expand healthcare access, protect earned benefits like Medicare and Social Security, and keep care close to home. I’m more determined than ever to deliver affordable healthcare and real solutions for the people of California’s 1st District.”
