A Democratic challenger is taking a bet that congressional maps will be changed next year and is running for Congress against one of the longest-serving Republicans.
Audrey Denney, a consultant and hunger-relief advocate who has never been elected to public office, officially announced her bid to challenge Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa in California’s 1st District in Congress. Denney has twice unsuccessfully run for the historically safe Republican seat, but she could have a good chance of ousting LaMalfa if voters pass Gov. Gavin Newsom’s redistricting measure this November.
