CHICO, CA, March 17 --- As the fight for effective representation in California’s 1st District continues, Audrey Denney (D-Chico, CA) has once again outraised her opponent, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale, CA). According to the March 31 FEC reports, during the 2020 election period, Denney has raised $215,000 more than the incumbent. Additionally, for the second election in a row, Denney has surpassed $1 million in fundraising.
While the congressman continues to depend largely on PAC contributions, GOP Party transfers, and out-of-district fundraising, Denney cultivates powerful and local grassroots momentum leading to the November 2020 election. Denney relies on individual contributions, with a staggering 95.9% of total funds coming from nearly 20,000 individual contributions. Conversely, in this reporting period, only 20% of Rep. LaMalfa’s funds were from individuals.
Denney is the candidate backed by California’s 1st District, raising nearly 70% of FEC listed funds directly from people who live in this congressional district, while LaMalfa relies predominantly upon out-of-district contributions with only 27% of his quarter two contributions coming from within this district.
Denney stated, “I am continually grateful for the support of real people during these challenging times. As our country faces an unprecedented public health crisis, we see the impacts of ineffective and destructive representation by Rep. Doug LaMalfa. With such strong local support behind this campaign, we will replace the Congressman with an effective leader who puts the needs of the people of California’s 1st District above partisanship and corporate interests. I am running for this office because I know how vitally important it is to have a true public servant representing us.”
